Trash and Junk Removal Franchises

The fancy way of saying “trash removal” is “waste management.”

In the US, we have a lot of waste and junk that needs to be removed on a daily basis. Let me tell you, it is a lucrative and highly-competitive sector.

Did you know that

  • The waste industry in the US is valued at $75 B a year.

  1. Junk removal alone is a $10B per year business.

June Weddings

I love the month of June. I associate it with weddings although other months are popular for weddings now.

In two weekends, one of my nieces is getting married.  Bunny and John were high school sweethearts and have remained a couple through college and graduate school for both of them. I wish them many years of happiness.

In August, a nephew is getting married. Tom and Jen met at work - @Chik-Fil-A headquarters in Atlanta.

Two days ago my nephew Palmer got engaged💍 to his beautiful sweetheart, Kinley.  (You know it’s a Southern thing to name girls with their mother’s maiden names and other family last names. They sound like boys’ names but they are girls’ names, at least where I’m from.)

Gary and Dowtin (there it is again - a girl with a last name for a first name) are engaged, too. Not sure who next in the family will hop on the wedding bandwagon.

You know for just about any successful business there is a franchise version. Leading up to and during the wedding season here are some of the franchises that get busy:

  • Event and wedding planning

  • Event lighting

  • Printing

  • Photography

  • Food and catering

  • Hair and beauty

  • Bridal and formal wear franchises and on and on.

Do you have any June weddings coming up in your family? Share about them in the comments section below.

What Does Fast Food And Personal Services Have In Common?

What Does Fast Food And Personal Services Have In Common?

  • Recreation

  • Moving

  • Storage

  • Education

  • Recreation and

  • Pets

What Was Your First Job?

Many people have their first employment at a fast food restaurant. I love how these businesses provide opportunities for teenagers to learn about the responsibilities and duties of a “real” job.

Fast food restaurants are the “Poster Child” of franchising.  They account for only 26% of all franchises. This is a surprising fact for many people to realize. Yet they provide a high employment rate among all franchises as the chart below illustrates.

My first “real” job was in college 🏢 as a Resident Assistant which paid for my room and board. What about you? Put in the comments section where you had your first “real” job.

Friday Fun Facts

The number of open franchised businesses continues to grow.  As the statistics below show, the growth naturally follows where the customers are.  On the resource, there is a map that shows Population shifts⚙️ to the Southeast show higher levels of growth and output over other regions of the country.

This map is from the annual Economic Forecast on Franchising. The report is an excellent resource on the franchise industry.

Factors making the great state of Texas the darling of franchise growth among all 50 states this year is:

  • Residents with disposable income

  • Low tax rates

  • Manufacturing investments

  • Service industries investments

Children Services Franchises

These can be great franchise investments for people who want to make a difference in the lives of children and their families.

One thing is for sure: people will spend money on their children, and this is true regardless of what’s happening in the economy.  If a child needs extra help with school, parents will pay for tutoring services.

When it comes to a child’s birthday, parents want to create lasting memories. Now, more than ever, parents are focusing on their kids getting proper exercise. Sports franchises are plentiful!

Working parents always need child care so, they pay for daycare, babysitting, and nanny services.

There are a lot of fun franchises from haircuts and 3D photography to mobile party vans to camps to wonderful pre-schools.

Revving With This Economy- Automotive Businesses!

People are worried about the economy so I’m focusing on franchises I call “steady eddies”. That is,” dull, normal” businesses that do well regardless of what’s happening in the economy.

Let’s look at the average age of a vehicle in the US. It is 12.2 years old!!

For automotive businesses, that means MONEY IN THE BANK!
For decades, I’ve used;

  • Quick oil change shops

  • Auto repair garages

  • Car detailing services

  • Auto parts stores

  • Gas stations

  • Tire places

  • Car washes

  • Rental cars

And so have you and millions of others!! Remember as the owner of the business, your role is not to work on the vehicles. You hire the technicians who provide the automotive expertise. You grow and manage the business.

The Pet Industry Is A Multi-Legged Trend That's Growing Rapidly!

The $76 billion pet industry is expected to nearly triple in size over the next eight years!

More and more people are becoming pet owners, and 2/3 of U.S. households have at least one pet!

Not only that, younger pet owners are spending incrementally more on their pets, showering them with gifts, toys, and tasty treats!

That’s why ‘Pet Franchises’ is one of the HOT franchises in 2023 because it offers entry into a range of pet-related professions from pet retail to breeding and supply.

Other businesses provide pet-sitting/daycare facilities, professional grooming, behavior training, and dog walking/minding

This Wednesday, March 08, 2023, from 11:30-11:45 AM, I will tackle more about the Pet Franchises Industry. If you are interested to learn more, feel free to register for the event using this link.

Year Round Swim School Franchise

Over the course of almost 20 years, I've learned a lot about my favorite swim school franchise, and the assumptions that surround it. Many say that it's a seasonal business. That is not the case!

This is why it is NOT seasonal:

  • Uses existing community pools, mostly indoor

  • Camps are offered when school is out

  • Ongoing need

  • Swimming is not trendy

This is why it is so popular with franchisees:

  • Home-based

  • Affordable!  NO BUILD-OUT

  • Family-oriented business

  • Community involvement

  • Hire the swim instructors

  • Proven business model

  • Scalable

What Is Feeding The Labor Shortage?

It’s no news that jobs are plentiful, and the applicants are few.  There are many considerations that factor into this complex dilemma. Let’s look at some of the ripple effects COVID has had on this.

  • Ongoing illness:  I’m not the only one who has had Covid two or more times. There is also “long COVID” which affects people’s ability to return to work. This winter has the triple threat of COVID, the flu, and RSV.

  • Fear of returning to work: Although the lockdowns are history, many people are still concerned about their health when it comes to returning to the workplace.

  • Lack of childcare: many potential workers are choosing to stay home to care for children.  There is a lack of good, affordable childcare, and some parents are concerned about the health of their children, especially during this winter’s Triple Threat.

  • The Great Resignation:  as is well-documented, when people couldn’t go to work at the office due to the lockdowns, many found working remotely a pleasant experience. People reassessed their careers, their lives, and their work/life balance.  Although remote work and hybrid work environments are plentiful now, many decided to change jobs or careers.

  • Education and Training: Some people enrolled in classes and programs to get new skills and certifications so they could make job and career pivots. This too took people out of the workforce.

  • Entrepreneurship: with the desire for control over their work, their work environment, their schedules, and the money they make, people are happy being part of the gig economy.  More and more people are becoming freelancers, independent contractors, consultants, and coaches. As a franchise advisor, I can say from a front-row seat that people are also choosing business ownership over a job like never before.

This is the biggest year in franchising I’ve seen in the 20 years I’ve been in the industry.  The franchise industry - especially service franchises - has been tremendously impacted - in a good way - by the pandemic. To learn more about recession-resistant businesses that thrive in down economies, message me on LinkedIn

Franchise Conference Takeaways

Franchise Conference Takeaways

Last week I attended a first-ever virtual Franchoice Conference with my colleagues from across the country plus many of the finest franchises in North America. I confess I was not looking forward to this online event as much as I usually did our in-person Conference which is held every six months. However, once the Zoom sessions began, I was in "on" mode because of the exciting innovations and adaptability the franchisers
