Being an entrepreneur is a unique experience. Naturally, it comes with both freedom and responsibility. The main challenge many entrepreneurs and I have is discovering the balance between working on the business instead of working in the business. To that end, here are my favorite productivity tips that maximize my ability to help people become business owners:
Keep a Schedule
The more you stick to a schedule, the less energy you'll have to dedicate to planning what comes next, and the more energy you'll have to devote to getting things done.
Front-Load Your Work
Plan your biggest challenges earlier in the day and week. This made a significant improvement in my productivity.
Reduce Distractions
Disconnect from any technology that isn't necessary for your job. I close my computer when I talk to people on the phone.
Outsource
Long ago, I stopped doing bookkeeping and payroll. Recently I hired a virtual assistant, and this opened up more appointments on my calendar.
Prioritize Properly
Think about where your time and attention most need to be spent.
Take Breaks
Stepping outside for a breath of fresh air or walking around the block helps me to refresh.
Get Enough Sleep
This is my single biggest challenge because I deal with sleep issues. However, when I am well-rested, my productivity soars.
Developing behaviors that foster greater focus and better productivity takes discipline. It’s a muscle I have strengthened over time. I’ve found that the people who do well with owning franchises have the common traits of self-discipline, good time management skills, and properly balance working on their business with working in their business.
